1. Purpose
The Accreditation Framework establishes the standards, procedures, and requirements for accrediting organizations operating under the authority of the National Institute of Caregivers (NIC Nigeria).
Accreditation is the formal recognition that an organization has demonstrated its ability to meet the standards established by NIC Nigeria for the education, employment, supervision, or delivery of caregiving services.
The objectives of accreditation are to:
Protect the public.
Promote quality caregiving services.
Ensure consistent national standards.
Strengthen accountability.
Encourage continuous quality improvement.
No organization shall represent itself as accredited by NIC Nigeria without holding a valid accreditation certificate.
2. Scope
This Framework applies to:
Accredited Training Partners.
Care Facilities.
Care Agencies.
Future organizational categories approved by the Governing Council.
3. Categories of Accreditation
NIC Nigeria shall recognize the following institutional categories.
3.1 Accredited Training Partner
Organizations approved to deliver caregiver education.
Responsibilities include:
Student training.
Academic administration.
Skills development.
Student supervision.
Record keeping.
Compliance with approved curricula.
3.2 Accredited Care Facility
Organizations providing direct caregiving services.
Examples include:
Residential care homes.
Assisted living facilities.
Elderly care homes.
Disability support centres.
Hospice and palliative care centres.
Rehabilitation centres.
Community care centres.
Responsibilities include:
Safe care delivery.
Employment of qualified caregivers.
Internship placements.
Staff development.
Quality assurance.
3.3 Accredited Care Agency
Organizations providing caregiver recruitment, placement, or home care services.
Responsibilities include:
Recruitment.
Staff deployment.
Client management.
Workforce supervision.
Professional compliance.
4. Objectives of Accreditation
NIC Nigeria accreditation seeks to:
Promote professional excellence.
Ensure compliance with national standards.
Protect care recipients.
Encourage ethical practice.
Strengthen institutional governance.
Promote workforce development.
Support continuous improvement.
5. Accreditation Requirements
All applicant organizations shall:
Complete the prescribed application.
Pay the approved accreditation fee.
Maintain an active Institutional Membership.
Provide all required documentation.
Accept the NIC Nigeria Regulatory Framework.
Agree to inspections and audits.
Maintain accurate operational records.
6. Additional Requirements for Training Partners
Training Partners shall:
Maintain at least one Approved Instructor.
Deliver an NIC-approved curriculum.
Maintain student records.
Support student progression.
Protect academic integrity.
Cooperate with academic audits.
7. Additional Requirements for Care Facilities and Agencies
Care Facilities and Care Agencies shall:
Maintain safe environments.
Employ qualified caregivers appropriate to their services.
Verify staff credentials through NIC Nigeria where applicable.
Maintain staff development programmes.
Report significant incidents as required.
Cooperate with inspections and audits.
Support internship placements where approved.
8. Accreditation Levels
NIC Nigeria shall recognize three accreditation levels.
Level One
**Registered Training Partner / Registered Care Provider**
Organizations that satisfy minimum entry requirements.
Badge
Blue
Level Two
**Accredited Training Partner / Accredited Care Provider**
Organizations fully compliant with NIC Nigeria standards.
Badge
Green
Level Three
**Centre of Excellence**
Organizations demonstrating sustained excellence in quality, innovation, compliance, and professional development.
Badge
Gold
9. Accreditation Process
The accreditation process consists of:
Application.
Documentation Review.
Compliance Assessment.
Site Inspection (where required).
Accreditation Decision.
Issuance of Accreditation Certificate.
Publication in the NIC Nigeria Accredited Organization Register.
10. Accreditation Period
Accreditation shall remain valid for **one (1) year** from the date of approval.
Organizations seeking continued accreditation shall complete the renewal process before expiry.
Failure to renew shall result in accreditation becoming inactive.
11. Renewal
Renewal shall consider:
Previous compliance history.
Inspection findings.
Complaints received.
Quality assurance reports.
Instructor qualifications (where applicable).
Student outcomes (Training Partners).
Workforce quality (Facilities and Agencies).
NIC Nigeria shall notify organizations before accreditation expires.
12. Institutional Dashboard
Every accredited organization shall receive access to an institutional dashboard appropriate to its accreditation category.
Functions may include:
Profile management.
Accreditation records.
Renewal status.
Student management.
Staff management.
Internship management.
Inspection reports.
Compliance notices.
Financial records.
Certificates.
13. Institutional Responsibilities
Every accredited organization shall:
Maintain professional standards.
Cooperate with NIC Nigeria.
Protect the welfare of care recipients.
Maintain accurate records.
Report significant organizational changes.
Permit inspections.
Display accreditation status honestly.
Use NIC Nigeria branding only as authorised.
14. Suspension
NIC Nigeria may suspend accreditation where an organization:
Fails to maintain required standards.
Obstructs inspections.
Provides false information.
Misuses NIC Nigeria branding.
Fails to maintain approved instructors (Training Partners).
Endangers clients, students, or staff.
Suspension may include conditions for reinstatement.
15. Revocation
Accreditation may be revoked where serious or repeated non-compliance is established.
Grounds include:
Fraud.
Persistent safety failures.
Repeated ethical violations.
Serious professional misconduct.
Failure to comply with corrective actions.
Organizations whose accreditation is revoked shall be removed from the public register.
16. Public Register
NIC Nigeria shall maintain a public register of accredited organizations.
Each listing shall include:
Organization name.
Accreditation category.
Accreditation level.
Institution Code.
Accreditation status.
Accreditation expiry date.
Verification link.
This register shall assist students, employers, caregivers, and the public in verifying institutional status.
17. Quality Assurance
NIC Nigeria shall continuously monitor accredited organizations through:
Inspections.
Performance reviews.
Student feedback.
Client feedback.
Compliance audits.
Outcome measurements.
Corrective action monitoring.
Quality Assurance shall be evidence-based and aimed at continuous improvement.
18. Appeals
Organizations may appeal accreditation decisions in accordance with the NIC Nigeria Complaints, Appeals & Disciplinary Framework.
Submission of an appeal does not automatically suspend enforcement actions unless specifically authorised.
19. Review
This Framework shall be reviewed periodically by the Governing Council to ensure continued relevance, effectiveness, and alignment with national priorities and international best practices.
